Letter from Our State Chaplain

Dear Sisters in Christ of Court #2481,
I can’t believe that we are already at the end of summer. I am writing this message a few days before our St. Louis 175th Anniversary Mass and celebration scheduled for August 21st . I am sure that many of you will have attended. This was a special celebration for St. Louis Church and for the Archdiocese. The Archdiocese is in its 176th year here in Oregon, starting out as the Diocese of Oregon City.

We certainly want to continue to look to St. Louis for his guidance and protection for the next 175 years as we continue to love the Lord and share the Good News of Jesus Christ to our community.

This church community has been a part of this Archdiocese from the very beginning and many families still attend St. Louis Church as they had when they were young.

As we move into September one of the major feast days we celebrate, is the Exaltation of the Cross on September 14th . This day is when we honor the cross that Jesus was crucified on. This sign of death is now a sign of life. We often have our crosses that we must bear in our lives. Some we choose, and some we are given.
Some are certainly harder than others. A cross that may be a heavy burden for Alice, might not be so difficult to carry for Christine.

Whatever crosses we must carry right now in our lives, we can be reminded that Jesus transformed his cross to a sign of life, and he will do the same for the crosses that you must carry right now. Look to the cross of Jesus for hope, strength and life!

In unity and Charity,
Fr. James
