For many years, the Gervais and St. Louis ladies traveled to the neighboring town of Woodburn to belong to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas organization. Vivian Duda, a Catholic Daughter for 24 years, had always hoped that Sacred Heart-St. Louis Parish would have a CDA court. With the encouragement of Fr. Kenneth Jacques, she took the risk of starting a new court.
On March 4, 2001, Court Our Lady of Perpetual Adoration court #2481, with 44 charter members was instituted during the 10 a.m. Mass. Fifteen members transferred from the Woodburn Court and 29 were new members.
Vivian Duda, who had served as court Regent, four years as State Regent of Oregon, and four years as a National Director, was elected the first Regent. Other officers were Marianne Higham, Vice Regent; Marge Pranger, Recording Secretary; Jeanette Eder, Financial Secretary; and Zita Steinkamp, Treasurer.
During their first year, the ladies of the Court provided dessert for the benefit dinner for the Fr. Taaffe foundation, acted as parish greeters, lectors and Eucharistic ministers, sponsored the Catholic Daughters education contest at Sacred Heart, and assisted in preparations for the 15th anniversary of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel.
In the years since 2001, Catholic Daughters activities and influence has continued to grow.
